Baby Chicks

This time we decided to go with all one kind of chicken. At the store we ended up with 13 blackstar and one buff cochin ( a pet for Kyla).

I had to go back and look at this post. Wow, how the kids have changed since our first batch of little chicks we got in April 2007. But they were as excited as if it was the first time to get chickens ever! So far all the new baby chicks are doing fine.

Gray Today, Green Tomorrow

Living In a World of Green

The last few days I have been trying to think of my favorite "green" picture to share on PW's latest Photo Assignment. I finally thought of this one that I took last August when we were home for harvest in Eastern Montana. This has to be the one! Who would have thought that my favorite green picture would have come from the eastern part of the state when we have so much green beauty in the western side of the state?!

After the soft, warm rain we have received yesterday and through the night, I know that our world will soon be "green"!

Enjoy you day,

Spring Break: Six Saturdays in a Row

Kyla recited this poem, Sick by Shel Silverstein, at a Talent Show at school on Friday. My recording at the talent show was very poor. I missed recording the first few lines and then it was still out of focus for a few more lines. This recording below, that Grandpa Larry took while he was here, turned out much better.

Oh, and the lady that you see in the video is just our tired-out, live-in nanny, dishwasher, laundress, chauffeur, cook, maid, janitor, activities director, counselor, mediator, nurse/Mom. Sometimes Saturdays don't mean much to her. Just ignore her...

So it may not be Saturday today, but it IS Spring Break! That's even better than Saturday. That's like having 6 Saturdays in a row!

We had a "not so great" start to spring break. One of the kids woke up sick yesterday morning. Yes, the REAL kind of sick. NO! this is NOT supposed to happen! Not on a 6-Saturdays-in-a-row-MEGA-break from school. And NO, we just got all over being sick already! Not AGAIN! But YES, it did happen...

Thankfully, the sick little one was feeling much better by last evening and the "spring breakers" decided to camp out in the basement... with a bucket by the sleeping bags... just in case.

From The "Mom",

A Note from the Janitor/Nurse- cleaning up throw-up off the floor and sleeping bag by flashlight in the middle of the night does feel a lot like camping out. It was so nice to have a clean, soft, warm bed to crawl into afterwards. Maybe "basement camp-outs" are the way to go!

Grandpa Larry

We enjoyed a few days with Grandpa Larry! It was fun to have Grandpa take them to school on Monday and Tuesday morning. Other highlights included a trip to Target, a meal out and a special Sunday together.

Miss you Grandpa! Enjoy your spring work!
and family

48 of 52: Spectacles

Kyla recently went to the optometrist and got her first pair of glasses. A couple weeks later I went to the optometrist to have a check-up and to pick out some new glasses for myself. My face is narrow enough that most of the frames were too wide for me. I finally went over to the smaller/youth frames section and picked out a few pairs to bring home and show my family.

Everyone agreed that the pair I have on above were the perfect ones! Yes, they are the exact same ones as Kyla's. Did Kyla want her Mommy to have the same glasses as her? She absolutley insisted that I get them! If she hadn't, there is NO WAY I would have embarrassed her. I guess she's not quite to that age yet...

The only difference in our new glasses? My outside lens edges are much much wider than hers!

What's For Supper?

Baked Salmon was on the menu for Saturday Night. We LOVE this recipe and usually try to find an excuse to have it about once a month. Our other favorite salmon recipe is here...

Happy Mid-Week!

Soda Bread and Stethoscopes

We enjoyed having Melinda and her boys here for two weeks. Our kids were all sick most of that time but, we did get in a couple evenings together. We miss them now that they are back home but glad all are back to feeling better. Here is some pictures from Thursday evening together...

We have quite a chunk of Irish background in our family. Dad's, Father's family. So every year we enjoy celebrating St. Patricks Da together with corned beef, cabbage, green jello, potatoes (except we forgot them), and soda bread...

The real treat this year was Grandma's new soda bread recipe! YUM! Colter couldn't get enough of this stuff.

Grandpa enjoyed his special St. Patricks day meal surrounded by 5 of his grandkids!
Kyla and Maya had fun decorating and setting the table...
After dinner, Auntie Melinda spent some time with Kyla helping her with her flute...
And the kids spent a while playing and fighting over Grandma's stethoscope. I think Maya might have that probe facing the wrong way in this pictures...
Grandma's lungs sound good...
Little Boyd still wastn't feeling very good here. In to the doctor the next morning reveiled an ear infection. Poor little guy...

It's a beautiful day here again today. Grandpa Larry was here for the weekend and just left this morning. We are TOTALLY looking forward to spring break next week! Hope all are enjoying your week!

Randy and Colter brought home this beautiful blooming begonia plant for me last Saturday. After seeing this post I had to try it. Only I did it the easy way... Picnik.

We are "hoping" we are at the end of a couple weeks of sickness at our house. Colter missed school all last week, Maya ended up with pneumonia (second year in a row -to the day!) , and Kyla has missed a couple days of school. Randy's on his second missed day of work. So far, I'm fine! Crossing my fingers!!! ;)
Randy took this picture of Maya and I this morning. It always makes a parents heart happy to see that twinkle return to their sick little ones eyes and the smile a'lighten their face again...

Happy 30th Birthday!

We recently celebrated my Brother's 30th Birthday(March 5) and my Sister-in-law's 30th Birthday (May 7). Birthday parties are fun for everyone, especially the kids!

Here are the rest of the pictures from our weekend together...

Hope all are having a great week!

My Brother, My Sister And I

Do you ever wish you could go back and change the way you treated your little sister and brother when you were young and growing up? I often do.

I would never ever again wear my sister's favorite sweater without asking and get it dirty so she couldn't wear it again for another week.

I would never ever again lay in bed pressing snooze on my alarm clock until I heard my brother's alarm go off across the hall and then run into the bathroom to get ready before him, making it so he barely had time to shower and get ready for school.

I know... I was a terrible big sister! I'd take it all back now if I could... :(

I think they have forgiven me. Maybe... :)

It was great to get together again last weekend to celebrate my brothers birthday. It is such a reminder of how the years fly by! Makes me want to make the most of every time we are with those we love because, one day, they are gone and living their own lives and you realize you can never go back to what you had before.

Our kids all sitting and standing still for a fleeting moment... (Back: Kyla, Colter. Front: Emma, Sarah, Maya, Boyd, Tyler)

Time marches on,

Things We Love

We love brand new babies. Welcome little Hannah Joy!

And we love having company,

especially when they feel like part of the family.

We love it when our "trucker" neighbor's brings us "just picked off the tree fresh" oranges and avocado's from California...

These are a just a few things WE love! How about YOU?

***************

Now I'm caught up from February and can move on to March! ;)

One thing we DON'T love it when the kiddos are sick. :(

I know that many others are going through this right now too!

Hang in there! There's SO MUCH to LOVE!

My Sister's Blog

My Sister did a great post of our special weekend together in Missoula and our drive down memory lane. Since I haven't gotten my act together yet to post more about it, I'll post her blog address for now and you can go there if you are interested...

Together

See my little brother in the back of the picture? He was born 30 years ago on March 5, 1980 in Missoula, Montana. So, here we are 30 years later meeting in Missoula to celebrate his big 3-0! The funny thing is, we didn't plan it because of that, or even realize the coincidence until we got together and started reminiscing. Missoula was just a perfect in-between place for us all to meet! I love it when life happens that way...

Have a great week everyone!

P.S. We missed you Uncle Keith. :(

Winter Wedding

Here is one of my favorite picture from a wedding I was at last Saturday. Those roses are so vivid against the black and white.

Congrats to the Happy Couple,
