9 Year Old Freedom!

Yesterday our oldest daughter Kyla left on a road trip with my parents. It's the longest she's ever been away from us and the furthest she's ever gone without us. Do you think she was a little nervous and apprehensive? NO WAY! Do you think I was a little nervous and apprehensive? YES WAY! But I talked to her on the phone yesterday and all is well. She's really enjoying her new adventure.

Here's some things I want to remember about getting her ready for her trip...

-Her camera has been lost for a while. I kept wondering were it could be so on Wednesday I took some time and really searched around for it in her cluttered desk drawers, behind the printer, in her bookshelf basket. Finally I found it in a different camera case in the closet where we keep all our camera equipment. Hmmm... right place, wrong case. I was going to surprise her and present it to her right before she left but when she got home from school she said, "I wish I knew were my camera was to take with me." I just couldn't keep it from her so I told her I had found it. She was SO happy!

-We sent $40 dollars with her. That is a lot of money for our 9 year old to have. I said she could pick out a little something for her brother and sister to bring back if she had time and spend the rest how she wanted to. I think she may have felt a little bit like I did in this post. ;)

-I stayed up later Wednesday night putting together some things for her to take to keep her busy for those long hours in the car. By the time I went to bed I was ready to tell her she couldn't go. You know how scary things seem at night sometimes. In the morning I was just as excited about her trip as she was. It's amazing what a good night sleep will do!

This morning I looked on the map at the route she is taking. She is passing within close distance of a half dozen of my blogging buddies and she will even get to meet one of them on Sunday. She'll also get to see some of my aunts, uncles, one cousin and my grandmother. I am SLIGHTLY jealous!!!

If you get a chance to read this Kyla, we miss you and are glad your having a good time!
(Don't forget to take pictures, and make your bed, and for goodness sakes-clean up the back seat of Grandpa and Grandma's car! And be polite and don't ask Grandma to buy stuff, and try and get some sleep, and don't eat to much candy, ...AND DO YOUR HOMEWORK!)

♥♥♥Love from your Mom♥♥♥,

Oh how SWEEEEET!!! I'm so glad she got to go. Tyler agrees about not eating too much candy. He says, "You don't want to get sick like I did!" Have a great trip Kyla-ky!

Fun, fun times! Little sis doesn't look to sure of the whole, "letting" go thing. :-) She will do great(because she had been taught), and she will have a marvelous time, and come back and share all her adventures with you.

Talk about being nervous...we are letting Kylie fly for the first time this summer(by herself). UGH. Already losing sleep over it.

What a great blog post. You actually put tears in my eyes. I don't know why really...excitement for Kyla, remembering my first road trips with MY grandparents, remembering how it felt when we sent Paige down the road with her Grandparents, and the look on Mya's face in that photo...so cute and sweet and sad all at once. Can't wait to see the pictures she takes and find out what she brings back for her siblings!

I really had to laugh out loud when I got to the last paragraph! My kids were all quite the gad-abouts with their grandmother from a fairly young age. It's a pretty special thing! 'lil sis there really does look unsure about it all tho!
I can't wait to meet them, I'm feeling very lucky that it's me in the "right place, right time" this time!!

That's so cute Al. I can totally picture you doing all that before she left, and I can just see the 3 of them traveling along ~ your mom taking such good care of her and your dad always watching out for her safety. That's great!

I didn't have the privilege to go on a trip w/ my grandparents, but I had older sisters - and that was pretty cool and so fun! :-)
