Memory Lane Monday: School Band Days

I had to share these pictures today for my brother and sister. It is fun to see "together" moments like this after all these years! Makes me miss them and our ordinary days together when we where younger.And I'd love to pick up that trombone and try my hand at it again! Wouldn't my kids love to see me play that... ;)

Pie Time
It's that time of year when our thoughts turn to pie. Here is a pie I tried a few weeks ago and we really enjoyed it. I will be making two more of them now for Thanksgiving and thought I would share the recipe on County Kitchen Recipes. Breaking Away!
Day Break in the Fort Peck Breaks (above)Everyone needs a change of perspective once and a while...
He met his Dad in the badlands in the Fort Peck Breaks again this year where they had both drawn cow tags. The hunt wasn't a "success" for either of them in terms of shooting an elk. But they did get off a lot of good shots on the Canon...
It sounds like a lot of their time was spent hiking up to the high ground and then just looking around with their binoculars and waiting to see something. Then off again...
Lunch out...
Another sign of life but no elk...
A beautiful desolate land. Would you believe me if I told you they saw seashells on top of some of these baron hills?
Getting up higher. They didn't see many elk and couldn't get close enough to the ones that they did see. But apparently it was a good time had but both father and son...
Surviving and thriving...
And while he was gone, I slaved away at home doing all the chores above all my daily bread baking, cooking meals, laundry, running back and forth to school 3 to 5 times a day, etc.... And on top of it all, I even made and smoked 30 pounds of summer sausage. At least that's what I told him anyway...
In reality, I also fit in a massage at the spa, my water aerobics, a little shopping for new boots, an evening with some friends, and we ate out a couple times too! I think we all survived just fine!
So glad you got to go Dear Husband. Thanks for all your hard work!

Memory Lane Monday: Chevrolet Runs Deep
This picture was taken at Thanksgiving time in November of 2005. I think the picture was taken by Auntie Aleta and I had some fun editing it.The most outstanding thing about this old 1947/48 green 3-quarter-ton Chevy is that Great Grandpa Alva and Great Grandma Ruth would travel with all 4 sons in it across Montana to visit family. Our family makes the same trip several times a year and it takes us about 9 hours in our air conditioned/heated, roomy, comfortable, quiet, speedy van. Makes me glad and thankful for modern convenience.
But I kinda like this old truck, I really, really do!

Sweet School Faces
Here they are! The traditional once a year school pictures that we just have to have because we just have to have them. Or maybe... I just have to have them because Randy and I always had them growing up and so now I have to have our kids school pictures taken every year too. :)Anyway...
It's fun to take the old 8x10's off the wall and replace it with the new 8x10's and compare how much they've changed in a year. It's fun to pass them out to the grandparents, aunts and uncles because now that they are older, I don't get that done very often. So, since I spent the money on them, it makes it more urgent to get them sent out and shared with the family. If you are any of the above mentioned "family", your pictures are coming soon! As "soon" as I get the cards made to send with them. Hopefully they will still look the same by the time I get that done...
But for now...

Memory Lane Monday: The Good Ol' Days
It's that time of year again here in Montana!When I thought of doing today's Memory Post, I thought this is the perfect picture to post today as Randy gets ready to head east to go hunting with his Dad. This is a picture of Randy, his Dad and brother, and his uncles and cousins, getting ready to go out hunting together on the farm. I don't know the year it was taken but judging from the way Randy looks (second to last on right) it looks like sometime in the early 90's.

Happy Halloween 2010
We had a nice time at the school fall carnival last night. Here is a picture of the kids on our way out the door. I think we all had enough craziness, chaos, noise and excitement for the whole weekend. Thankfully they ended up with hardly any candy. Colter traded all his candy, except one piece, in on quarters so he became a little richer out of the deal. The girls decided to keep their candy. ;)Tomorrow evening Mom and Dad are bringing over soup and I think I will make some of these...

Crab Croissant Melts
There is a little Cafe in town here that makes these delicious sandwiches. I thought I would try and imitate them one day and came up with this recipe. My family loved it so we enjoy it once and a while on Saturday afternoons when we have lunch together. It is rather rich so we don't indulge to often. You can find the recipe at our Country Kitchen Recipes blog site.
I have a couple other recipes to share soon! My favorite bread recipe and an Apple Pie with a crisp top are coming this month! My desire to post recipes kind of died right along with my appetite when I had morning sickness the last 4 months but now my appetite is alive and well so watch out!!! ;) lol!

Little Exchanges
An exchange between Daddy and Maya one Saturday Morningas the sun makes it's appearance upon the horizon. We treasure the mornings when Daddy is home.

This Mom's recent thought on being a parent...
When I am up with one of my little ones at 4:30 in the morning, tucking them back into bed, and they reach up and hug my neck and kiss my lips before they snuggle into their blankets, my heart sings.
I'm reminded that God gives us these little beings to gently love and firmly teach. In return for this, we receive an abundance of love and we are forced to learn so much. It is a beautiful and miraculous exchange.

Some recent exchanges that make us chuckle...
Randy and the kids are outside in the garden cutting down cornstalks and hauling them to the burn pile.
Colter: "Dad"
Randy: "What?"
Colter: "It really smells like pigs."
Randy: " Maybe Duane and Janette are cleaning out their pig barns."
Colter: (very excited) "That's COOL that we can smell that all the way over here!"
Maya: (also very excited)"YEAH! and I have a stuffy nose and I can still smell it!"
So Duane and Janette, aren't you glad that your pig farm smell brings so much excitement to our country kids? ;)
Then at Kindergarten show and tell one day a little boy named Boe is showing his giant zucchini that he found in his Mother's garden.
Boe: "Does any one have any questions? Maya?"
Maya: "Why does it have seeds inside it?"
Boe: "Well that's how it was born!"
Maya: "Oh!"
Like they say... Everything I need to know, I learned in Kindergarten.
So this week is Red Ribbon Week at school and Maya has informed Randy and I several times that they have red ribbons to wear at school that say... "Free Drugs". Even though it doesn't seem like a laughing matter, we both have a hard time keeping a straight face as we inform her that they probably say "Drug Free", not "Free Drugs". Then she says, very straight faced, "Oh yeah! Drug Free!"
It makes me wonder just how much kindergartners can understand about this whole awful drug thing. These things haven't even occurred to their innocent little minds.
So, everything I didn't need to know I learned in kindergarten too. Although the sad day will soon come when they do need to know about the way the world is.
And an exchange between sister...
Maya: "Kyla, do you like the way I dressed baby Mia?"
Kyla: (reading her book-does not answer)
Maya: "Ky-la!
Kyla: (no answer)
Maya: "KY-LA, do you like how I dressed baby Mia?"
Kyla: (without looking up) "sort-of Maya"
Maya: "BUT KYLA! YOU SHOULD LIKE IT ALL-THE-WAY!"
All these little moments...
I wouldn't exchange them for anything!
