It started with a little walk on the shore. Then Randy and the kids started off through the woods. Of course I followed with the camera...
Pretty soon they all headed up the hill side. We hadn't planned a hike for the day but... the beautiful day and the promising view from the top just beckoned us on...
and the kids would not stop. They just kept running on up. Here they are looking back at slow Mom and Dad...
Wild Horse Island is the largest island in Flathead Lake. For centuries, the Salish-Kootenai used the 2,100 acre island to pasture horses to keep them from being stolen by other tribes. *
The sky was beautiful and the grass was SO green. We just couldn't get enough of this beautiful Island in the middle of the lake...
Colter and the girls split up near the top to explore different area's. Randy and Colter ended up at the top (see them between the trees). Here are Kyla and Maya running to find a way up...
Like I said, we were not planning a hike and the girls were not exactly wearing their hiking shoes. But that didn't matter...
It was an awesome, unexpected Island adventure for us that would have only been unbelievable had we been able to view a wild horse. But, no such luck this time...
Thanks for joining us,

ohhh...it's just breath taking! One of these days I AM going to visit Montana! In the mean time, thank you for sharing a little piece of heaven with us. ;)
i'm speechless. everything I think to say, doesn't do justice. montana takes my breath away. Now I want to head west (which might be in the near future. i'm hearing rumors.. i'll keep you posted!!)
We drove south along the western side of that lake three years ago. We stopped for a picnic at a park along the way. You're lucky to live nearby!
I can't help it, I'm jealous! Would love to go sometime. What a perfect day you chose too! The lake looks like a sheet of glass!
Dear Mountain Top,
What a great way to spend time with your fam. We all need those little moments, the ones that make lifelong memories. I remember hiking expeditions with my family as a child in Nevada.
