June Company
We've enjoyed having overnight company a few times this last month. The first guest was our buddy Robert. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture when he was here. Above is a picture of the kids with Carolyn and Teresa. We've all known Carolyn for a long time but it was fun to get to know Teresa! Of course we know that she's a good friend of our cousin Tyler! ;)
We enjoyed having Agnus spend last Sunday night with us. She has known both Randy and my family for many years. She spend many years laboring in Norway. It was neat to get to know her better and to see how youthful 91 years can really be! ;)And now we are looking forward to more company at the very end of the month! I am VERY VERY excited!

Miles of Smiles
These two girls are second cousins. They are 10 days apart. They found they had a lot in common these 4 days at convention. When Kyla went on her Nebraska trip she drove within an hour of were Deshka lives so she has a good idea of what is looks like on Deshka's ranch. There is already a letter and this picture in the mail on it's way to Nebraska. These smiles will be traveling for miles and miles!

Memory Lane Monday: Little Stick Man
I posted a 9 month old picture of Kyla a few weeks ago so I thought it would be fun to post a picture that I took of Colter when he was 9 months old.What is it about sticks that boys find so captivating? And why does it start at such a young age? And when does this fascination ever end?
This little boy is 7 now and played with sticks whenever he had a chance this last 4 days... building forts, making traps, and using them for whatever need arose. In fact, there was no end to the boys that found hours of fun playing in the trees behind the candy stripe barn. How I wish I had a picture of them all...

Straight Talk About Teef
We've got some teeth stuff going on here right now.
Maya finally loft her firft toof! How exciting! Only a short while later she loft her second toof so she is missing her 2 front (bottom) teef right now! (actually her speech has not been too badly impaired by this)
Colter has been developing an (underbite?) in his mouth. Basically his 2 front bottom teeth have grown out in front of the top 2. We are already starting orthodontic work to help correct it. He was quite excited the other day to get a retainer! Thank goodness it will be through the summer and we can help keep track of his $550 dollar little plastic/wire/rubberband contraption. If there are any orthodontists reading this, please don't be offended- I know there is quite an art to making these things...
Kyla is beginning to grow into her teeth and they are starting to straighten out. She's also been losing Molars (OUCH!) Hopefully she won't need any correction much to her disappointment. The other day she said to Colter that he was so lucky to have a retainer and he told her right back that she was lucky to have glasses. Go figure...

Memory Lane Monday: Special Days of 1953
The 3 sisters-Blanche, Ruth, and Margret with their "little" families at Ronan in June 1953.When I saw this awesome picture in my stash this morning, I knew it was the perfect one to post today!
This picture brings so many feelings and emotions to my heart. Memories too! See that old tent? I remember that! See all those smiling faces? I remember them too! ;) See those old cars? I don't remember those but they are so cool! Maybe some of you remember them?
Randy and I were trying to figure out who everyone is in the picture. I think we have everyone figured out except for the littlest ones. Fun to see Larry (Randy's Dad) in front of Freeman and Julia right in front of Larry. Are we right?
We are looking forward to our own special days this week-same place only 57 years later. :)

A Little "Slip-Up"
We were at a wedding a couple weekends ago and the bride and groom left by train. While we were waiting for the train to come, I noticed this poor little girl wandering around picking up stuff along the tracks...
She looked so dirty and disheveled, I kept wondering who this poor little girls mother was...
To let their child wander around in such an unkept way... hhmmmph, what a shame...I really wonder what her mother was doing that day to not even be paying attention to her daughter.
She was probably busy taking pictures or something...
I hope I'm never guilty of such a disgrace,
P.S. This little "slip-up" of her slip down problem is being looked into and will hopefully be fixed before her next public appearance.

Seizing My Cookbook!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you again to Jenn over at Seizing my Day for this wonderful signed Pioneer Woman Cookbook!
I have purchased two of these cookbooks so far for gifts but had not bought one for myself. A couple times when I was in Borders I had it in my hands and then I would go put it back on the shelf. My practical side would argue that I could always look the recipes up on the PW Cooking site. But it is always nicer to have the cookbook right in your hands! And it's even more special when it's been signed by the person who created it!
So, what a surprise when I posted a comment on Jenn's blog and won! A few days later it showed up in my mailbox! I was so excited to get it and try it out. Here are some things I tried so far...Olive Cheese Bread was on the menu one night with Shrimp in Butter/Garlic and Spinach Salad with Avocados. I've made this bread before and we really enjoyed it and thought how good it would be with crab, so this time I substituted imitation crab meat for the cheese. YUM, YUM, YUMMY!
Then one day I made the Braised Beef Brisket! It is out of this world. You must try it if you haven't!!!
Along with the brisket I made this dish. It's not in the cookbook but it was SO good so I took a picture and I'll share the recipe soon with you at Country Kitchen Recipes. It's OH SO easy...
The kids had an early out at school last Friday so we made cookies together. These are the Oatmeal Crispies (MM's favorite cookies). I didn't have pecans on hand so I substituted walnuts instead. The kids all had fun mixing and stiring...
And we all had fun eating them. I also used half the sugar that it called for and they were very good and wholesome tasting!
