34 of 52: Miles and Miles

Here we are all lined up in the van. Girls on one side and boys on the other. No, we didn't plan that. The kids just sit at random in the back usually.
I like this picture below because it says a lot. You can see the wide open empty road behind us. We travel miles and miles of empty roads and scarcely populated land when we make this trip. You can also see the buildup of stuff the kids create after being in the car for hours and hours. You can also see my son. He definitely takes after his father. Oh, and my daughters are not wearing their seat belts correctly. We'll have to have a little chat about that...
I took these pictures on our recent road trip across the top of our big state. We call it the High Line. We make this trip often enough that it does seem like we are more used to it now. It's still a long trip at just under 500 miles. We have to plan for a day going and a day coming.

We like our van. It's seen us safely over miles and miles. It's been as far east as Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As far South as Jackson, Wyoming on numerous occasions. As far west as Newport, Oregon a couple times, and North up into Canada. It also faithfully takes me back and forth to the school daily and into town a few times a week. We bought it new between our 2nd and 3rd child and we celebrated the day we payed it off. It's been "lived in" for over 5 years and I would be lying if I told you it didn't have it's share of dings, scrapes and stains decorating it. I just blame it all on the kids! Even when I scraped a mail box when I was driving down our street I said it was because I had to talk to one of the kids and wasn't paying attention to where I was going. Bad excuse I know, but it was true. But who knows, I might even have to let my kids drive it someday. They better not scrape any mailboxes though! ;)

I've gotten pulled over for speeding only twice in my life and both times in this van. The first time was about 5 years ago in North Dakota. They can be sticklers in North Dakota! I got a 70 dollar ticket I think. Then I got pulled over this last Tuesday for speeding in town here. I'm not kidding! Luckily I only got a warning. Maybe he took pity on me because I was so nervous my hands were shaking when I handed over my license, insurance and registration. I guess we all need a little reminder once and a while. :)

Well, this post has gotten lengthy, just like our trip. So I'll stop now. I'm curios though. What do you think of minivans? Please take a second and fill out the survey on my sidebar. Thanks!

Dear Mini-Ali,
We just traded our van for, what my daughter calls, a 'Baburban'. We are loving it because of the extra room and our van was on it's last leg/wheel anyway. Your family looks darling, as usual.
Love,
Wishing You Safe Travels From NE

Cute post this week! It's interesting what a picture reveals...My daughter & her 2 kids came to ND with me this week, and my other daughter took pictures of the little kids riding. When we looked at them we found a big woops...one of the car seat buckles was unfastened, and my daughter is a car seat tech, & a huge fanatic for car-seat/seat belt safty!!
I'm a huge fan of mini vans! really the word is LOVE! :)

So much fun to pile the kids in the van for a good long road trip...especially when it lead to family! I know our kids seatbelts always get messed up as we drive along...hard for them to keep it like it's suppose to be sometimes.

Don't ya just love the High Line. I made the trip SO many times when we lived in Plentywood and my mom was in Hamilton. Isn't it hard to imagine that you can drive for nearly 11 hours and stay in just one state. Your kids are so cute. Randy has such a great smile in that one picture too. Fun pictures this week.

Great pictures. I have never liked traveling. The 3 hours it takes to get to my gma's is almost too much for me.

So common, for our family too. Glad you shared ~ we haven't traveld in forever and when we do I am afraid it is going to be a long long trip even if it is only one state ☺

THANKS FOR CONTINUING TO SHARE!!!

That is an epic trip. If we drove 500 miles (and we do) we could get from the bottom to the top of the country! I wish we had so much space in our car- we have 7 seats but not so much room, our roads are too wee!!!

How often do pictures of the inside of the car get taken on a road trip? I'll answer my question... not very. Great post. We often sing the praises of our mini-van that has faithfully taken us on many road trips. Once in a while I look longingly at a little two-seater and then remember my seats that fold down when I want to haul a sewing machine or a Shop-smith. I think we'll be keeping our van.

Fun post and pictures!

(Our seat belts get worn in funky ways, too.)

Looks like fun! Don't ya just love those long family car rides?! If you think a mini van is fun you should upgrade to a 15 passenger van~all the fun of a mini plus more! We love ours, sooo much fun and lots of room!

We drove a mini-van for almost 10 yrs. and 230,000 miles...very practical, but we graduated to a "crossover" since then. We still like having more room than a car provides for hauling home all kinds of supplies on shopping excursions.

i don't think I'd take any length of trip with our 4 kids if we didn't have a van! :) we actually have a conversion (sp?) van. my hubby is 6'7".. we had a mini van for awhile, but he wanted more 'leg room'. it's not as nice on gas as our mv.. but oh.. the s-p-a-c-e!!
