Maya's birthday was on Thursday the 8th of October. She decided she wanted a "Hello Kitty" birthday cake. I've always wanted to try fondant frosting so I decided this would be a good time to try it.
We all thought the cake turned out really cute but we weren't really impressed with eating the fondant. Kind of...well... chewy... So, if your after the look, fondant is GREAT. If your after the delicious frosting, fondant is not so great... We ended up peeling most of the fondant off.
Here are some more things I want to remember about her birthday.
-We got to celebrate with Grandma and Grandpa and Loren and Larry, which she was very excited about.
-The entire time she giggled and giggled with pure delight in all the fun and excitement of her magical birthday.
-She couldn't eat her whole piece of cake ;)
-The thing she has been wanting for her birthday for a LONG time is a fishing "pool" (fishing pole). I can't believe I didn't get a picture but after she opened all her gifts Randy went out in the garage and brought in her new fishing pole. Oh what an excited little girl. Everything else was forgotten.
Sigh... sometimes I wish I could be 5 again....

Aw, so awesome! (a girl birthday, sigh....) You did an awesome job on that cake. Sorry the fondant wasn't that tasty but it looks awesome!
Darling child. She's looking so big. Your cake is fantastic, though I have to agree with you on the fondant. I've never made it, just tried to eat it. Ugh. Anyway, makes for a really cute presentation.
Happy birthday, Maya. I love your new baby, and her name.
that cake is awesome!! I've never made or ate fondant. Is it hard to make?
Very sweet little girl with such a cute cake. I love to that she wanted a fishing pole!!!
Awesome cake Alison! What fun for Maya to have a fishing pole.(:
This is embarassing, but I have a lot in common with Maya...and I'm 50 years old!! I LOVE Hello Kitty things and I have a Bitty Baby that I dress according to the seasons. I'm not weird...I don't play with her...I just dress her up and put her in her chair in our living room. Maya, you have good taste...and never lose the little girl in you, even when you are old like me! Alison, I love looking at your blogs each week. You show us the joy in the simple things of life and I thank you for that good reminder! And you obviously have your Grandpa John's green thumb in the garden...I remember how he loved to garden and passed on that love through the generations it appears.
Happy Birthday Maya
Sending love to the whole family,

Happy birthday to Maya and Randy! Ufdah.. it seems like such a short time ago that Maya was a newborn... and it was neat to see those pics again too! I know you both are treasuring your special time each day when you can just have one on one.
Even though I hate cats and don't they're cute, I've always thought Hello Kitty was adorable. Great job on the cake. I'm impressed, but not surprised :)
I miss the days when I loved my birthdays (ask my dad). But now I get to have even more fun with Paige's bdays!
Hey, you did a great job on the cake. Was the fondant store bought or was it the homemade marshmallow. That doesn't taste to bad. Happy Birthday Maya & Randy.

That is a fantastic looking cake. Happy Birthday, dear little Maya! Looks like Momma treated you right.
Thanks everyone. It was fun to try. I did the store bought fondant that you color with Wilton food coloring and flavor and then roll out and decorate with. I bet doing the homemade kind would be much more tasty. Thanks Becky, you sound like you've had fondant experience. I would love to see one of your creations!
