Just some more fun with picnik...
Have a great weekend!
30 of 52: Hall Mirror
After some of you did mirror posts last week, I decided to try it. It's a great way to get yourself in the picture, right? And there is Maya peeking around me.
We have a full length mirror at the end of our hall. So I'm forced to see myself every time I go down the hall to our bedrooms or to the washrooms. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.
Thinking about it...
P.S. Have I mentioned how much I like rounded edges on pictures? I really REALLY do...
52 Weeks is a year long challenge for YOU to be in a picture once a week for 52 weeks. We are always the ones behind the camera, this is YOUR chance to get out in front and be in the pictures with our family. We are glad you are joining this challenge. More importantly your family will really enjoy having you in the picture. Thanks for playing along! Oh, you can just jump in now with 1 of 52, you're not getting off that easy! Now go take a picture!

Another Recipe...
Just a couple things to tell you...
1. I apoligize for another post about food. It seems like it's the only thing I really have to blog about right now. Very, very sorry. No, our life doesn't revolve around food, we do have a life besides food... or do we?...
Anyway, here is another recipe, Scalloped Potatoes, you can try at www.countrykitchenrecipes.blogspot.com. This one is made without dairy for any who might find that useful.
2. And, I am putting a new little gadget at the bottom of each recipe posted that you can give us a little review of what you think of the recipe. Please let us know...
3. And, If you have been checking here lately, you'll notice random and crazy changes made daily to this blog. Well, I was getting a little bored looking at the same black screen with pictures and stuff but, I think I'm happy with the white screen now for a while.
4. And, I don't have much to blog about lately but thanks for checking in and I just might surprise you one of these days.
5. And have a great day!
Hugsfromus,
P.S. I know I promised recipes for White Chili, Berry Coffee Cake, and Yorkshire Pudding quite some time ago. They will be coming soon...

Once Upon A Time...
He was a South Dakota farm boy.
She grew up in the mountains of Montana.
He walked to a one room school house and remembers bathing in a big basin by the warm kitchen stove.
She loved visiting her grandparents just down the street and remembers eating oatmeal for breakfast every morning.
He enjoyed sports and being outdoors.
She enjoyed singing and sewing.
He bought a new 'candy apple red' Volkswagen Beetle in 1968.
She bought a new Chevy Impala when she saved enough money from working out on her own.
Those were the only new vehicles they ever bought.
He came to Montana for college and became a Forester.
She moved to Washington and worked at a hospital.
And one day, between here and there in a little place called Post Falls, Idaho, they met for the first time...
He fell in love.
She fell in love.
Some time later...
He asked her to marry him.
She said yes.
Love you both,

Dad and Mom - Congratulations on 34 years!
Love you both,
Just PLUM* Yummy!
Remember a couple weeks ago we went out in the first snow and picked grapes, apples and plums?
Well, here is a post about the plums. Like Linda said, "No project is done until you've blogged about it." :)
Here is something new I did this year. After pureeing the plums, I made fruit leather. It is completely sugar free** and it is SO good! I can't leave it alone! Good thing I made LOTS of it.
And here is some of the dried plums I made. They are the next best thing to the plum leather. They may have a bit more nutritional value as they haven't been cooked like the leather.
Plums are one of those food that I enjoy much more after it has been made into something else. It's not that I don't like fresh plums but I think it brings out so much taste after you dry or cook them. Now if only OUR plum tree would produce more just ONE plum ! Maybe next year...
* something superior or very desirable; especially
** no sugar added

After I pitted and simmered the plums, we pureed them in my nifty cone strainer and pestle. This tool is a MUST for fruit preserving!
And it's a MUST because it's easy for the kids to operate too!

28 of 52: Unexpected Fruit!
What a surprise it was last week to have the opportunity to go and pick grapes with our friend Lovie! Someone that she knew had this beautiful grape vine all along their deck and they couldn't use all the grapes so they wanted her to come and get them. We picked all these sweet, juicy grapes in the first snow...
Here is Lovie hard at work...
And Maya cutting down the clusters of grapes too...
I filled up 6 plastic grocery bags with grapes! Wow, now what do I do with them??? Lovie suggested making Grape juice and canning is so I make 5 pints of that...
Then I managed to give away a couple bags of grapes...
And today, I finally finished making grape jelly. I ended up with 25 assorted jars of grape jelly! They all sealed and they are setting up.
Here is a picture with three of my helpers. My biggest helper was taking the picture. He stood at the sink with me the other night cleaning and pulling grapes of their stems for a couple hours.
We also picked loads of apples and plums(thanks mostly to Loren and Larry)! So we've done some applesauce and plum freezing and drying. I plan on making plum jam and plum syrup as soon as time permits. And most of the apples will be turned into Apple cider this weekend. Pictures to come!
All for now,
